The Association of Local Authorities of Viljandi County was established on 17 January 1992 to promote cooperation between the local authorities in Viljandi County.
According to law, the main tasks of the Association are to promote balanced development in the county, to advance the democratic decision procedure, to develop cooperation between its members, to share information and experiences, to represent the common interests and protect the rights of its members, and to perform any legal or contractual duties assigned to the Association.
The Association of Local Authorities of Viljandi County acts as the representative of the county and the local authorities of the county in state authorities and other institutions.
The Association provides different services to local authorities, inhabitants and organisations of the county; coordinates the organisation of educational, youth, sports and cultural events, and partially finances these events as well as various non-profit organisations on account of money raised by the local authorities of the county.
